Greetings SNWMF Massive,

I am a long-time frequenter of this board, and attended SNWMF once back in 2004.

Attaching our band bio below in the hopes that you'll read it and give us a listen! We're on all major platforms.

About Nkula

At 16 years old, Abel Simon Mekonnen (named after the good son in the Bible) fled his homeland of Ethiopia for a three-month journey to neighboring Sudan; an odyssey of missed connections, 4 a.m. truck rides, and bouts of malaria. It would be three long years before he finally reunited with his family in the United States. Fast-forward to 2021, and Abel is now the lead singer of the Washington, D.C.-based reggae band Nkula, waging a new battle against an unjust global system with reggae music as his weapon of choice.

Generally a soft-spoken individual, Abel’s voice rings out like a bell when Nkula takes the stage, transforming him from a David into more of a Goliath. Boasting all the key ingredients of a complete reggae outfit, Nkula is a far cry from a one-man-band, most notably flaunting a three-piece horn section that breathes life into a set of uniquely African-influenced reggae rhythms.

While it’s not an easy road, the world is beginning to pay attention. Nkula released its debut EP “Zion Rock” in January 2021, consisting of five original compositions focused on personal empowerment, self-reflection, and spreading a message of love and unity. Fellow D.C. reggae legend Jim Fox teamed up with the band to mix and master the album, and Ryan Berty of two-time Grammy nominated SOJA signed on to direct the music video for Nkula's first single "Judgment Day."

Stay tuned as Nkula is on a mission and already cranking out its second album with the intent of releasing it before the end of 2021.
