meh

This is a pretty strong lineup. I thought the same thing until I saw that there's a Roots & Culture stage with some of the still touring Jamaican greats. Diamonds, Abyssinians, Pulse, Horace, Half Pint, etc.

The "MEH" is the location. Long Beach?? No camping, etc. Pass.

I'd like to know the by day lineup for the roots and culture stage...

This is a pretty strong lineup.

I think this poster epitomizes the state of things today. IMHO, you have some OUTSTANDING talent on that lineup. If you copied the 'roots and culture' stage and pasted it into a boonville poster, I can guarantee you people would be well pleased and satisfied.

The problem, as I see it, are two-fold:

First is the issue of all the JAMAICAN artists being relegated to the 'roots and culture' stage. I confess to not knowing some of the bands in the top 3 rows and realize that bands contain members from all parts. But it looks to me that ALL the bands in those row are AMERICAN BANDS. Okay, there's Damian, but seriously?

Then there's a second issue that I have with this poster, and that is one of RACE. Blacks (and yellows) to the back of the bus bottom of the poster! What percentage of caucasians on the "roots and culture" stage vs. non-caucasians on the 'One Love' stage......?

I am familiar with having to juggle artists between 2 stages. I am aware of the notion of positioning artists based on current popularity. But isn't any consideration given to artist's lifetime body of work? Doesn't anyone look at the lineup and think SOME adjustment is in order?

maybe that root and culture stage would be less packed and more enjoyable actually. all those artist are big, even in small print: half pint-gladiator...

Agree completely with Daniel on this one. Pretty disrespectful that almost all the real reggae artists (yea I said it) are delegated to the bottom where they will play one of the 3 days, who knows which day. I guess this is the state of reggae music in California in this day and age, it just seems to be getting worse.

Hmmm, I agree with some of Daniels words. Why would you put the"roots and culture" artists at the top when it is a onelove "Cali reggae fest" the JA artists at the bottom surely aren't "Cali reggae", right? The promoter isn't trying to attacked "real reggae" fans, they want the Cali reggae fans simply because the numbers are a lot stronger. And that equals a sad state of reggae music, I agree. If I lived in So. Cal I would go and post up with the other 50 people on the roots and culture stage and have plenty of room to skank.

Well said Daniel, and it does practically seem racist, save for J-Boog, Katchafire, & Damien...

Hear, hear!!! Agree with Daniel. Very odd....I nearly missed the bottom, small type lineup. They need to revise this poster, website, etc.

are folks seriously making claims of "racism" — based on the design and position of the artist names on a festival flyer... really?! smh.
unless you find a note saying "make sure the black folks are on the bottom", you're trying to make something out of nothing.
there are plenty of things in society, that actually are racist, and you should probably focus your energy on those real issues...

personally i'm thankful they have these artists on the lineup at all, cuz they could easily pass them over.

The gentrification of Reggae. I enjoyed some of these headliners when they were the opening acts back in the day, but I do not want to see them headlining the MainStage. This makes me feel old and sad. The scene has changed. It's not really ours anymore.

This festival would sell out tickets without that stage. It is what it is.

I thought the poster was extremely disrespectful. It's disgusting. To hell with One Love Festival. There true love is money. Period.
