I'm always interested in understanding the history / evolution of songs, particularly as rhythms travel across different cultures / genres (African, Jamaican, American, Latin American, etc.).

For example, here's an interesting one: Baltimore (Nina Simone) -> Baltimore (Tamlins) -> Bun Down Soddom (Anthony B.)

If other boardies could post similar "song histories" they're aware of, that would be cool...

Thanks for posting, Daniel. I thought Nina Simone wrote Baltimore! Also a good one, Dr. Seuss.

Third World also did a cover of "Baltimore" (sorry, don't have link)....but Nina Simone's is, by far, my favorite.

Check this one out... I knew this tune had its origins in Puerto Rico, but took me some serious digging to find it...
