Afrobeats Oakland has been the premiere Afropop collective in Northern California since 2019, spearheading a series of regularly sold out events and an annual outdoor festival in the Bay Area. Co-Founded by DJ/music specialist Juan G, and Production Director, Asaba Kugonza, the collective has elevated the presence of African music in the region, all while interjecting unique musical and creative aesthetics inspired by dance culture from all around the world.
There are few people who better embody the drive to take Africa to the world more than Juan G. Splitting his time between Accra, Ghana and Oakland, California, the multi-faceted DJ & curator has entertained audiences throughout the African continent, Asia and across the US. His acute focus on emerging genres and trends from Africa has allowed him to help pioneer the popularity of Afrobeats, Afro house and, most recently, Amapiano within the US. Over the past several years, Juan G has cultivated a thriving Afrobeats scene in the Bay Area. He’s the co-founder and principle DJ of several high-key events, the Co-creator and founder of the Afrobeats Oakland lifestyle brand, and co-creator and creative director for the Afrobeats at the Lake festival.
