World Peace Day - June 21, 2003
June 21st is World Peace and
Prayer Day (WPPD). World Peace and Prayer Day is to recommit ourselves to
ecological principles for sustainable living through forums, exhibits, and education to
support a better future for our children.
WPPD is a mission undertaken by Chief Arvol Looking House, Spiritual
Leader of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota Nations (collectively known as the Great Sioux
Nation) for the survival of our planet. Founded in 1996, Chief Looking House, along
with thousands of concerned citizens of the Americas began to promote this Wolokota event
(Lakota word for Peace)
United Nations World Peace Day Proclamation:
The global community is now pursuing a United Nations world proclamation
declaring June 21st (summer/winter solstice) as World Peace Day. On June 21st, all
nations and all people would join together spiritually and pray for the healing of Earth
and all beings to live in sustainable harmony and peace.
World Peace Day at SNWMF
Over the past ten years we have endeavored to build a community where Conscious music,
Roots music, World music is embraced. Where bringing diverse people from many lands
together in celebration yields more than just the sum of each individual present, but
something much grander. At SNWMF people experience a unique sense of unity and
belonging, a semi-utopian moment in time where love, generosity, joy and innocence can be
reclaimed. We believe that music has the power to move mountains and change
paradigms, and the phenomenal artists
who have graced SNWMF stages over the past decade have imparted an
overwhelmingly Positive force.
Let us gather once again at the Summer
Solstice to dance, drum and chant for Peace. In these troubled times,
we can only follow our hearts. And our hearts tell us that the people need to come
together, now more than ever.
The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival is dedicated to nurturing a world family peacefully
united in celebration of the universal spirit of music. Come celebrate with us! |
