Spotlight on SNWMF 2014 Artist: The Tamlins:

Electrifying is the word which most adequately describes THE TAMLINS, one of the best harmonizing trios to emerge from Jamaica. Their sparkling reputation is based on their solid record of noteworthy achievements and a string of golden hits, like “Baltimore,” “Ting-A-Ling,” “My Whole World Is Falling Down,” “Reasons,” and “Go Away Dream,” to name a few.

Consisting of Carlton Smith, Derrick Lara and Junior Moore, THE TAMLINS started out as a nightclub act in 1970 and by 1972 had won the “Most Outstanding Group” award in Jamaica. In 1979, they released “Ting-A-Ling” on the Hawkeye Label in London which became a No. 1 hit on the Black Echoes Chart.

After teaming up with Sly and Robbie, THE TAMLINS released songs such as “Star,” to be followed by “Laying Beside You Baby” and then the remake of Nina Simone’s “Baltimore,” which held the No. 1 spot for twelve weeks.  "Baltimore" was judged the “Number One Record of the Year” in Jamaica on JBC’s “Top 100” for 1980. That same year, the group also won the “Best Group Award” from JBC, Radio Jamaica and the Daily News.

In addition to numerous hit singles, the music of THE TAMLINS can be found on albums including “Black Beauty,” “Red Rose,” “I’ll Be Waiting,” “Love Divine,” “No Surrender,” "Re-Birth" and their 2013 release “Crossroads.”

Performing on stage shows in Jamaica such as the very popular "Rebel Salute" and numerous vintage shows THE TAMLINS continue to stay in the spotlight and show their longevity.  Derrick Lara notes: "We pride ourselves on our stage performance and and hope the people love the vibes."

SNWMF 2014 will be THE TAMLINS very first performance in Northern California.  Of the upcoming concert, Singer Carlton Smith states "Its a joy to be performing on Sierra Nevada World Music Festival 2014. Its a long time coming, and we are grateful for the experience to perform in California. Many of our fans have seen us have seen us sing backing vocals for Peter Tosh and Rita Marley, its rewarding for us to be in the forefront."

We are all very excited that THE TAMLINS will be in Boonville this June, and they are sure to leave the audience with lots of wonderful memories.
