Though born in London, Shinehead (born Carl Aiken) was raised in both Jamaica and the Bronx. His divided birthplaces were reflected in his knowledge of reggae, rock and rap, all of which he incorporated into his debut "Unity" for Elektra in 1988. Neither it nor the 1990 follow-up, 'The Real Rock', were able to generate much momentum, but they were forerunners to the hip-hop/reggae convergence
