 Growing up in Guinea, the young Alpha Yaya Diallo was drawn tomusic. Notbeing of the
Infatuated with the cosmopolitan scene and profusion of musicalopportunity, Diallo joined the African band Fatala, unleashinghis powerfulguitar work, and giving in to his crossover impulses. Dialloprideshimself on his appreciation and mastery of many musicaltraditions from WestAfrica and beyond, and he freely combines traditional styleswith modernarrangements. Diallo toured extensively with Fatala, and recorded on the RealWorldrelease "Congoma Times." When the band stopped in Vancouver,Diallo hoppedoff the train, waved goodbye, and proceeded to start his ownband Bafing,which would take Canada by storm.

The past few years in Vancouver have been fortuitous forAlpha Yaya Diallo. The compilation album "Aduna" and the recent "TheMessage" on Wicklow Records are stunning musical journeys, with the tightguitar-driven arrangements drifting from Cuban to Spanish and back to thepan-African influences.
